What is internet banking?
Quite simply, internet banking is the service we provide to let you carry out a range of banking transactions online, at any time that suits you. Once you’ve registered, you can view your accounts, make transfers, order cheque books, and stop cheques, direct debits and standing orders – without being restricted by banking hours. All you need is a PC with internet access. (Please note: some services are only available to personal banking customers.)
What banking transactions can I carry out online?
The great benefit of internet banking is that it lets you manage your accounts and banking transactions more closely, giving you greater control over balances, transfers and fixed deposits. You can:
- view balances and transactions and print statements
- transfer funds between your own accounts or to any other FBN Bank (UK) account
- transfer funds from your account to international bank accounts (outgoing transfers)
- stop cheque payments
- order cheque books
- check the status of your cheques
- view loans and deposits contracts
- stop direct debits
- cancel standing orders
(Please note: some services are only available to personal banking customers.)
What do I need before I can start using internet banking?
All you need to start banking online is an account with FBN Bank (UK), and a PC with internet access and a compatible browser. You don’t need any special software. Once you’ve registered for internet banking, you’ll be able to access the service any time, anywhere, from our home page at www.fbnbank.co.uk
How do I register for internet banking?
First, you need to have an account with us. Then go to our website, at www.fbnbank.co.uk making sure you have your account details to hand. You will also be asked for your name, address, email address and security information. From the home page, click on ‘internet banking’ to download a registration form or order a form to be sent to you.
How safe is internet banking?
The security of your accounts, and the reliability of your internet banking service, are our highest priorities. To safeguard your online banking, we use 128-bit encryption, which is one of the most advanced technologies available for internet security. Encryption transforms sensitive information into a string of unrecognisable characters before being sent over the internet. In this way, it helps provide a secure channel for data transmission, keeping information private between our computer system and your internet browser. To use this technology, you’ll need a browser that supports 128-bit encryption.
Can I order my cheque books online, and stop any cheques I’ve issued?
Yes. If you have a personal account with us, you can order a new cheque book over the internet and stop issued cheques being paid.
What if I forget my internet banking password or PIN?
Simply call our Internet Banking Helpdesk on 0207 920 4920. For your security and protection, we will then generate your new password or PIN. Depending on your location, you can collect these from our London offices, or have them posted to you or sent by courier to one of our Nigerian representative offices. When you receive it, you’ll be advised to change it, so it’s known only to you – you can do this online at any time by clicking on ‘Change Password/PIN’ from the Customer Services option.
Are there transfer limits on my account for internet banking?
Yes. If you have a personal account, you will be restricted to certain limits, set to enhance the security measures we have in place.
Can I transfer money between my accounts?
Yes. If you have personal accounts with us, you can transfer money between them.
Why do the internet banking pages expire?
For security reasons – to prevent the pages being stored in your browser’s memory. So if you do your internet banking from a shared computer, other users won’t be able to access your account information from your browser’s history files.
How long will my statement of account be available online?
Statements are currently available from November 2003 to the present. They will in time be available for a period covering the preceding seven years.
